Ingenieur für Trinkwasser und Bewässerung (Associate Engineer for Rural Community Water Supply Ministry PRF 8584) Bei Interesse PRF Nr. angeben

Contribution to Strategy: The largest factor affecting the mortality of Bolivian children is whether they have a safe water supply or not. A missionary engineer involved in a water supply ministry can have a HUGE impact on unnecessary childhood deaths in Bolivia. Infant and childhood mortality in Bolivia is the worst of any nation in South America. Communities are very actively seeking help. SIM Bolivia is committed to strengthening its compassionate ministries to the poor in rural and peri-urban areas. There has been very keen interest among the local communities in which the access to safe water is very, very low. Only a small percentage of rural town inhabitants are evangelicals, making them a priority ministry focus for SIM Bolivia. A missionary water engineer can gain easy entry into these resistant communities through safe water projects. Then they are able to be empower existing believers to reach out more effectively.

Ministry: DW- Water Development & Sanitation

Responsibilities: You are needed to plan, organize, and manage the construction of peri-urban and rural town water and sanititaion projects. These construction projects vary according to geographic location and local conditions. However, they include a very interesting variety of projects including storage tanks, spring protection, gravity pipeline distribution systems, river infiltration galleries, hand-dug or drilled wells, hand pumps, submersible deep well pumps, and latrines.

You will help hold training and mobilizing workshops for groups within the selected communities. You will be working with other Christian agencies who lack water and sanitation expertise. Our current workers are excellent partners for the SIM missionary to train and work beside.

Your engineering skills are not the only need for this ministry. The ability to use whatever skills the Lord has given you to serve the physical, social, and spiritual needs of a community is just as valuable. By building relationships with indigenous people, you will build trust and acceptance with people who will allow you to share the Gospel and relieve their chronic poverty through providing safe water and improvement in their health. You will need to be a good listener and a trusted "outsider" in whom the community can place their confidence. You will also visit believers in the communities to support, encourage, and mentor them in their spiritual lives.

Personality Issues/ Cultural Considerations:: You should enjoy living in rustic settings. Vacas, the provincial capital, is where you will be living in an apartment at least 3 days per week. It is a small rural town with basic conveniences such as water, electricity, phone and restaurants, but it would not be appealing to someone who is not adventuresome and who doesn't enjoy "roughing it" a bit. When not needed in Vacas, you will be living in Cochabamba attending a Spanish language institute to improve your Spanish and begin working with the Coachaca Mission Training campus or possibly other church and youth ministries. There is a preference for a male missionary or a married female engineer for this position because of the rustic conditions and regular travel with Bol-Can's male director.
