Contribution to Strategy:

The vision of SIM Ghana is that "By faith we see true followers of Jesus Christ, empowered by the Holy Spirit, united in a mature Church that values people and God’s creation. We see these believers impacting and transforming society in Ghana and beyond for the glory of God." Over 40% of Ghana's population is considered to be youth, and among the males, sports, particularly football (soccer) is passionately played and followed by many. Sports is a powerful tool or bridge to build lasting relationships with youth and their family members. The Sports Friends Ministry Development Leader will work to train, equip, and counsel Ghanaian churches and church planters to use sports ministry as a powerful evangelism, church planting, and discipleship tool to expand God's kingdom in Ghana. We envision hundreds, perhaps thousands, of Ghanian sports ministers and coaches becoming great 'life influencers' to multitudes of youth looking for purpose and hope.

Responsibilities: Provide leadership for the development of effective sports ministry programs in Ghana. Focus on vision casting, training, mobilization, and church-centered sports ministry model development. Work closely with Ghanaian church denominations and church-planting movements to see sustainable, Ghanaian-led sports ministry programs developed. Help support and develop other Sports Friends ministry leaders in Ghana.

Required training: Other than the call from God, applicant must have cross-cultural and language acquisition training. In addition, prior coach's training football/soccer) is desired.

Recommended Experience: Previous experience in sports ministry leadership and or coaching is required. Previous experience in sports program development is also helpful but not required.

Personality Issues/ Cultural Considerations:: Applicant must be committed to discovering Ghanaian ways of bringing out the best in their team and Sports Friends leaders. Applicant must also have good people skills (sensitivity is a MUST in this culture), and the ability to lead, encourage, and motivate a ministry team. Applicant must be a flexible self-starter who will persevere in an ever-changing environment.
