Position Information

Contribution to Strategy: SIM Niger’s 100+ missionaries serve in a wide variety of ministries in 12 locations across the country. The purpose of SIM Niger is to glorify God by planting, strengthening, and partnering with the Church in Niger. CSL's vision is to minister to the whole person as exemplified in the life of Jesus who "…preached, healed and taught…" (Matthew 4:23). Many former patients are a living testimony to the witness of Danja as they serve the Lord as teachers, pastors, evangelists, farmers, traders, and in many other walks of life.

Ministry: HM- Physician, Various Specialties

Responsibilities: The doctor will: 1. Provide qualitative general clinical and leprosy services. 2. Do rounds in the men’s and women’s leprosy service wards to insure good wound care. 3. Aid with debriding wounds and skin grafting. 4. Be involved in village outreaches, including dermatology clinics to screen for new leprosy cases. 5. Work to improve the rehabilitation program of the hospital. 6. Do consultations with those in the out-patient and in-patient departments who have been screened by the nurses and are in need of more acute care. 7. Supervise the annual drug orders for the pharmacy. 8. Be available to consult with the midwives in the obstetric department and to be available for difficult deliveries. 9. Coordinate and refer patients to the physiotherapy department. 10. Provide weekly teaching for the nursing staff to enable them to continue to grow professionally. 11. If the doctor has had surgical training, perform basic surgeries. 12. Look into ways in which CSL could be involved in community health programmes.

Other Ministry Possibilities: Danja is quite a large village with two churches and numerous possibilities for ministry. It is also in the middle of a sizeable Fulani population, with at present no missionary working amongst them. The hospital compound has 200-300 people resident at any one time; youth, children’s, ladies’, and men’s work are all possibilities. Language would be the limiting factor.
