Exegete Trainer

Do you have a degree in Theology/Biblical Studies? Do you enjoy training and mentoring others? Do you want to be involved in pioneering endeavors to lay the groundwork for the future of Bible translation in Central Asia? This position involves building into local exegetical advisors the skills and attitudes needed for contributing to Bible translation projects in the region. This is a crucial part of our efforts to promote local sustainability.

Key Activity Areas

 

• Training, mentoring and coaching students in exegetical skills, enabling them to become active members of translation programs.

• Some involvement in translation programs, working as a member of the team.

• Contributing Biblical exegesis to the translation team.

• Participating in text preparation, revising, preliminary exegetical checking and extended checking sessions.

• Involved in the decision-making and team building processes of the team.

 

Humility is required for service in this cultural context, as well as flexibility with agendas. You will also need an ability to work in partnership with various church groups of differing theological backgrounds. The context may vary from seminary to training center to translation project office.

What you’ll need

 

• Personal relationship with Jesus Christ

• A church that stands behind you

• Team-mindset, resilience and ability to work without close supervision

• BA or higher degree in Bible and/or Exegesis

• Advanced expertise in Biblical Exegesis helpful

• Expertise in Greek and/or Hebrew

• Basic understanding of Scripture Use

• Good understanding of language and culture acquisition, sociolinguistics, syntax, semantics, discourse, translation principles and cultural anthropology (organisation-internal training offered)

• (Desirable) Translation project experience or relevant training in Bible translation (organisation-internal training offered)

• (Desirable) Experience or desire to work in an inter-cultural context

 

Minimum age: 21

Duration: 1 year or more
